Best Places to Elope in New England
Where should we elope? It’s the question I get asked all the time. I’ve helped hundreds of eloping couples find their dream elopement spot. Most of the time it’s a place they never even knew existed, but somewhere they will go back to and look back on fondness because it’s the place they said their marriage vows. There are a ton of stunning public lands spots that work beautifully as elopement sites. Some are easy park and walk a few meters, others are a little bit more difficult to get to, whatever you decide getting married outside is one of the best ways to say “I do!”
New England and the entire Northeast region of the United States have some of the best views and landscapes in the country. For that reason eloping in New England is an adventure you will never forget. And whether you and your partner are looking to have a beautiful beach elopement or a mountain top adventure elopement, there is a perfect vista for you. I will list some of my favorite outdoorsy spots in the northeast that are incredible locations to elope. The list below is in no particular order because all of these spots are gorgeous and it depends on the landscape the couple enjoys the most. Read more here.
Rhode Island
Rhode Island is one of the premier places in the country for elopements. It is, after all, the Ocean State and has 400 miles of gorgeous coastline that includes cliffs, dunes, river rocks, and sandy open beaches. And while the coastline is a major attraction it also has beautiful forests, lakes, and rivers dotted with cute cabins if that’s more your style.
New Hampshire
The Granite State is full of beauty and the White Mountains are home to some of the best places to elope in New Hampshire and we offer a variety of elopement packages in NH. If you’ve decided a traditional wedding is not your thing, a New Hampshire elopement might be the perfect fit for your lifestyle. New Hampshire has so many stunning landscapes from cliffs to epic mountain ranges to crystal clear waterfalls, and is considered one of the best places in the New England region and the country for elopements. Those looking for an adventure wedding experience with an epic mountain backdrop should look no further than eloping in NH.
Vermont
Vermont has so many stunning landscapes from waterfalls to mountain ranges and is considered one of the best places in the Northeast region and the country for elopements. Those looking for an adventure wedding experience that includes hiking, stunning views, apple cider donuts, and maple syrup should look no further than Vermont. The autumn in particular offers some of the best views in the entire world during fall foliage season, and Vermont has some of the most perfect, idyllic small towns.
Maine
Maine is the perfect place to elope with your significant other. This state offers some of the most beautiful and scenic landscapes in the country.
Maine is a great place to elope because it offers many different options for views from stunning mountains, to serene ocean views, to captivating lakes. I love to tell people that Maine is the premier spot on the East Coast where the mountains meet the ocean, so if you are both a mountain and ocean person, this might be the place for you.
Massachusetts
Massachusetts is one of the leading places in the country for elopements and we offer a variety of Massachusetts elopement packages. Because of the varied landscape, the first thing you’ll need to decide is what type of view you’re looking for on your elopement day. If you’re into waterfalls, rivers, lakes, mountains, and forests, stick to the western part of the state. And if you’re looking for beaches, sand dunes, seagrasses, lighthouses, and islands, you’ll find those on the eastern side. Keep all of these things in mind, but remember that Massachusetts is a relatively small state in terms of driving distances, and you can drive across the whole area in about 3.5 hours.
Connecticut
Connecticut is known for its rich history, but it has plenty of beautiful elopement locations as well. It is one of the most beautiful and historic states in the United States with a lot of diverse landscapes, from rolling hills and mountains to beaches and rivers.
Bonus Non New England State
Upstate NY
While not technically part of New England, Upstate NY is close enough and has stunning mountain, lake, and waterfall vistas. New York is a huge state, so there are tons of options for incredible views. The further north and west you go you’ll find a little more seclusion, but some of the most incredible spots can be found just a few hours from New York City. So decide whether you’d like to get married with a waterfall backdrop, mountain views, or on a boat in the middle of a pristine lake. Regardless of what you choose, New York has something that will make your jaw drop in awe.

In addition, I offer planning guidance and assistance including (but not limited to) locations, timeline, and permitting requirements.

Plan your small outdoor wedding or elopement day timeline. Want to make sure you’re choosing a location during the best time of day for light, or best time of year for weather? I make sure we do just that. And then I put together the perfect timeline of your incredible day, so everyone is on the same page and the day unfolds seamlessly!
Location Scouting + Vendor Recommendations
My years of experience have taken me a lot of different places. You get knowledge of incredible elopement locations that include everywhere from stunning waterfalls, mountain tops, forest tunnels, and coastal cliffs. Along with that comes working with some pretty amazing teams of wedding vendors. So I pass that info along too.

From a backcountry helicopter tour to canoeing, hiking, climbing, train and ferry rides, horseback riding, plane rides, and everything in between. There is no limit to what you can experience on your adventurous day.
Officiant
I can also sign your marriage license. I’m an ordained officiant in every New England state and in New York. So if you don’t want to hire an officiant or make a family member fill the role- you can say your vows to each other and I can sign the paperwork.
Travel Included
You never have to worry about paying travel fees. You don’t worry about where I’m staying or how I’m getting anywhere. One less item on your to-do list!
FAA Certified Drone Pilot
That’s right, I have a pilot’s license to prove it and everything. I stay up to date on the latest drone laws so that I can fly my bird and capture your day from a huge variety of angles throughout the day.
Elopement expert
I use my GPS to make sure we don’t get lost. And I’ll bring along things that you might not have thought about like hand warmers, tissues, umbrellas, and headlamps. Most of all, you get an expert who has been through this over 100 times to guide you through the process.
